Arunachal Pradesh

The traditional costumes of Arunachal Pradesh are also very amazing. Different tribes of this state wear different types of dresses. In their costumes, one can see the reflection of multiple patterns, vibrant colors and features of their tribal culture. It shows their aesthetic style and enthusiasm for embellishment. The outfits are very exceptional and even attract people from other parts of India.

Monpas put on a skullcap. The fames of Monpas wear a long jacket over the sleeveless chemise. There is a strip of cloth to bind the chemise properly.

Costumes for Women of Arunachal Pradesh

Accessories are compulsory for girls and women in most of the tribes in Arunachal Pradesh.
The women of Buddhist Monpas tribe wear a jacket above a sleeveless chemise which is tied to their waists with a lengthy and narrow strip of cloth in a rounded manner.  
  • The Monpa women beautify themselves with earrings, silver rings, bamboo-bits, red beads and attractive turquoises. 
  • There is another famous dress accessory is cap, adorned with a stunning peacock-feather. 
  • The outfit looks really astonishing and attracts others. 
  • Women also put on ‘crinoline of cane rings’ that looks really very beautiful.

Traditional Costumes of Arunachal Pradesh

The Sherdukpen reside in the southern region of Bomdila, resembling with the Buddhist community. Sherdukpen women dress up in sleeveless and collarless garment. Over it, they wear a full-sleeved jacket with wait cloth known as mushaiks.

 A Naga tribe called Tangsa also lives in Arunachal Pradesh. Women of this tribe wear a very attractive woven petticoat and a linen blouse. They look like the ancient replica of modern Indian skirts and shirts.

Costumes for Men of Arunachal Pradesh
  • Men from Arunachal Pradesh wear sleeveless material made of silk with 2 edges that are pinned property at the shoulder area. 
  • The clothing is usually knee-long. Its hallmark is the skull-caps smeared with the hair of yak. 
  • They are natives of Bomdila and resemble the Monapas. 
  • Traditionally, a Sherdukpan male wears sleeveless silk material with its edges attached to the shoulder. 
  • The costume falls down till knee length.  
  • The look is complete only after a skull cap which has yak’s hair decorated on it is worn on top of the head.
