- Clothing of Uttarakhand portrays the lifestyle, religion and tradition of the ethno-linguistic communities (Kumaoni and Garhwalis) of the northern state of India.
- Uttarakhand is bordering with the neighboring states Himachal Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. So, the people have adopted the traditional and lifestyle of these states as well. There are also many other communities such as Bengalis, Punjabis, Tibetan and Nepalis have settled in Uttarakhand.
- Garhwal hills have their own pattern of wearing costumes as per their cold climate. Wool obtained from sheep or goat for manufacturing warm clothes.
The Kumaoni is also a language which is mostly known as Central Pahari language.

- Ghagri, an oriental long skirt, topped off by a Choli, an Indian blouse and an Orni, a cloth covering the head and the front portion, usually fastened to the waist, happen to be the traditional costume of the women of Uttarakhand, namely, the Garhwalis and the Kumaonis.
- The traditional bridal costume of the Kumaoni is Ghaghra-Pichora, akin to Ghaghra Lehenga- Choli. Pichora is a Kumaoni veil or Rangwali, endowed with gold and silver tatting.
- But women also prefer sarees.
- The trademark of Kumaoni woman are sindoor smeared on the forehead, and an enormous gold ring, called Nath. Further, Chareu, a black beaded necklace is worn by the married woman, is a holy accessory for Garhwali married woman.
- A luxury ornament item is Hansuli, a kind of necklace, preferred in gold by the rich, and in silver, by the less affluent, or poor. It is typically a heavy ornament made of solid silver or a metal composite.
Some of the ethnic groups, drape themselves in mantle-like clothing, called Sarong, girdled by a waistband and completed with a top-blouse. Muslin textiles, specially muslin veils or Rangwalis are assets of Uttarakhand costume designing. They are available in a variety of colors and a holy acquaintance of marriage.

- There is another alternative dress i.e. Kurta-Pajamas for men that is widespread in this part of India.
Both men and women wear woolen jackets and sweaters in winter. In towns like Rishikesh and Dehradun the influence of western clothing can be seen among youngsters.
